State Assembly Candidate continues to press Clippers to come to Orange County

74th State Assembly candidate Karina Onofre readies Task Force to pitch NBA and Clippers to move to Orange County

Irvine, California Tuesday May 13, 2014 California State Assembly candidate Karina Onofre announced she will soon release names of her blue-ribbon committee to lure Clippers franchise from Los Angeles to Orange County.

Said Onofre, “I’ve received solid support, from Orange and L.A. Counties, business leaders and community activists, men and women, from Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Asians, and Arab Americans. This Task Force can convince the NBA and Clippers organization, the time has come to seriously entertain an offer for the Clippers to move to Orange County.”

Continued Onofre, “Anyone who has heard or read about the hurtful, racial remarks that now dominate discussion about the Clippers, major sports figures, and their L.A. fans must realize it’s time to act!”

Onofre addressed comments she said she received, that her drive to bring the Clippers to Orange County was only a ploy to promote her State Assembly bid. “It’s true my being a Democrat candidate for State Assembly in Irvine, Costa Mesa, Laguna Woods, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Huntington Beach has brought publicity to this compelling idea, to bring the Clippers to Orange County. If I were just Karina Onofre, small business owner, no one would have listened to me. But my State Assembly campaign is a unique opportunity to generate awareness and present a dynamic plan, in concert with many Orange County leaders.”

Asked if she would step aside, once a Clippers Task Force is up and running, Onofre replied, “I’ve wanted an Orange County NBA team ever since I was in high school. This is a big dream for me, for many basketball fans, for Orange County’s business community, and for thousands of Southern Californians. I continue to divert attention from my State Assembly campaign, to bring the Clippers to Orange County.”

Last week, Onofre outlined a plan to assemble a Clippers Task Force. Said Onofre, “I want a team of talented business and community leaders, public officials, fans and NBA representatives to prepare a boni-fide proposal to invite the Clippers to come to Orange County. I know what a great place we have; beautiful neighborhoods and beaches, strong business environment, wonderful schools and established Major League teams. In my city of Irvine, international cultures, ethnic groups and diverse religions live, work and play together, in perfect harmony. We must show the Clippers the power of second chances, the power of a new Orange County home, and the power to become another basketball powerhouse for all of Southern California!”

“I passionately believe Orange County can be the right new home for this team. We have so much to offer the Clippers, and they can become a great business resource for all of our communities.”

“I continue to ask your help, to bring together Orange County’s very best leaders, to form a proposal to invite the Clippers to join our Orange County family. Please join me to cheer on the Clippers tonight against Oklahoma City, 6:30PM!!! Contact me at Karina@karinaonofre.com or 714-360-2011.”
